My Sassy Take on the Utilitarian Fashion Trend

COMBAT & LACE

Autumn calls for layering unconventional pieces to achieve a subtle look, so why not take your summer gear and transition it into fall fashion? We should all become experts in utilizing those “in between” seasonal items year round from our closets.

What more could a woman ask for other than another way to stretch out the use of her lace leggings? If you don’t have lace leggings, I suggest you grab a pair, those Madonna inspired tights are an incredible way to spruce up any outfit. Dainty and frilly, lace delivers an unlimited satisfaction to feminine taste. I know when you think of lace terms like: elegant, sexy, sheer, girly and seductive may come to mind.

As a fashion enthusiast and your personal style guru, I’m here to bring you fresh ideas on ordinary pieces. I want to show you how to turn something effeminate into a laid-back modest bombshell. Adding combat boots to lace takes a sophisticated girly-glam look to an utilitarian-urban-chic style.

In case you’re not familiar with utilitarian fashion, it’s a form of the military trend integrated with a zookeeper vibe into wearable outfits. Popular pieces from the utilitarian trend include army green jackets, safari vests and the unisex combat boot.

Every Autumn, I’m rocking some type of combat bootie. Whether it’s in ankle height or calf length, booties are an essential item in my fall wardrobe. But those tomboy shoes become boring if I’m always tucking them into jeans or cuffing my pants to show off the entire boot. Of course you can wear your combat boots with a denim dress, leather skirt or dark floral romper.

But what about something so simple to produce a new trend? I decided the utilitarian style needs a boost! What better way to glam and edge out a practical look than throwing in something delicate for a simple glimpse of luxury or sophistication. I think the shot of lace adds a modern twist to a major 2017 fashion trend.

After my style revelation, I’m enjoying the blending of textures, prints and patterns. I think this combo is a game changer because it pairs the best of both worlds into one fashion statement. Take advantage of the layering opportunities fall brings by wearing two untypical items together. Engage into the idealism of transition by introducing some convenient summer clothes to your fall wardrobe.

I posted this look February on my Instagram. I had no idea what to write about it in a blog post until now. Sometimes it’s nice to step away from something and come back to it for a better understanding. I hope you all like my new trend as much as I do 🙂

What do you think of my sassy take on the utilitarian trend? Is it something you would wear? What pieces are you pairing together from summer into the autumn season?

I love this look! I don’t own any lace leggings but I love wearing dresses still in autumn with my boots and they look like the perfect thing to complete the outfit with while the seasons transition. I think I need some in my life x

Sophie get you a pair of lace leggings because you can practically wear them throughout the year. Even wear the lace leggings under your ripped denim for a sexy edgy effect 🙂

At some point in my life Utilitarian fashion dominated my wardrobe from combat boots to military inspired parka coat or jackets and baggy olive trousers. I don’t wear them full on but do mix and match them with my plain clothing to spice them up a bit. I do miss this style and thanks to your post I am able to reminisce on those days.

It’s nice to switch it up a bit but if you really like the utilitarian style, go back to it. The fact you stepped away from it has given you a new perspective on wearing the trend even better 🙂

This is a really cool look Natonya! I would have never thought of mixing lace and combat but it works so well! I like it as it really adds a feminine dainty touch to a tom boyish trend. I think lace leggings would also look really awesome with my Dr Martens 😍 Thanks for the fashion inspiration, girl! 💖 xx
