#StealHisStyle
Welcome to my new male blogger series: #StealHisStyle, which features interviews with some of my favorite fashion male bloggers or digital content creators who effortlessly add their sauce to the fashion industry by redefining the meaning of style.
These influencers are game changers and it’s time to give them the spotlight. Iconic and eclectic style is derived from numerous sources, let’s get inspired by their journeys! #StealHisStyle will show the evolution and diversity of male fashion with latest styles by trendsetting bloggers.
His aesthetic is simple, with black as the main focal point, Zoel Hernández likes to pop his look with a prominent piece. Attached to the minimalist fever, Zoel demonstrates numerous ways to overturn the “total blackout” look into conspicuous fashion, leaving us with a deliberate yet sleek off-duty style.
Steering the world with endless possibilities in how to wear black, he makes a fashion statement by guiding his minimalism through pops of color and patterns. Proving that one doesn’t have to wear the loudest prints and vibrant hues together in effort of making a style point, it’s simply done by using one article of clothing. As Zoel states on Instagram,
It’s all about the details.
Instagram is the platform where he displays his artistic eye primarily for fashion but gives us a taste of his photography skills through the architectural backdrops he chooses for each photo.
As if his taste in fashion wasn’t enough to keep us captivated, Zoel provides his audience another side to him on his blog through lifestyle secrets, baking recipes, men’s skincare tips and the exquisite love he has for Barcelona.
Although the Spanish native adores his country, he has turned his admiration for English-speaking locations into the study of English Philology at Autonomous University of Barcelona.
Let’s find out how Zoel tapped into blogging:
Natonya: Hometown?
Zoel Hernández: Ripollet, Barcelona. It’s a small town about 10km away from Barcelona’s city centre.
Natonya: Why did you start fashion blogging?
Zoel Hernández: I started my blog because I wanted a place to be myself and share who I am with others, and that includes fashion as it is something I have always loved. At the beginning I only took pictures of the clothes but then I gradually became confident enough to be in front of the camera.
Natonya: Describe your go-to look.
Zoel Hernández: I tend to wear all-black outfits and I add a striking element to them such as an orange denim jacket, a red hoodie or even a cool pair of sneakers. I would say my style is quite minimalist too.
Natonya: What is your definition of fashion?
Zoel Hernández: Fashion is a way of expressing yourself and visually showing who you are by having fun with your clothes.
Natonya: Five words to describe your style.
Zoel Hernández: Black. Minimalist. Over-sized. Edgy. Streetwear.
Natonya: Who or where do you get fashion inspo?
Zoel Hernández: I get a lot of inspo from Instagram and other blogs. In fact, one of the bloggers that has helped me find my style is Joel (aka Gallucks). Some other people I admire and that inspire me so much are Drew Scott, Pelayo Díaz, Virgil Abloh and Sangiev. However, travelling is also a great source of inspiration, especially when you go to places like London.
Natonya: Favorite designers/stores/brands.
Zoel Hernández: Off-white, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen and Vetements are four of my favorite designer brands. I buy a lot of clothes from ASOS and Zara, so I guess they are my faves too. Weekday and Mennace are two brands that are also bringing out some amazing items.
Natonya: Can’t walk out the door without wearing?
Zoel Hernández: A sick pair of sneakers! I am addicted to sneakers and I am trying to build my own collection.
Natonya: What advice do you give someone trying to discover his or her style?
Zoel Hernández: Follow a lot of fashionable people on Instagram and try to wear similar outfits. This way you’ll know what you like and what you don’t, as well as what suits you. Then it is time for you to add your personality to your own outfits. It is also important to build a coherent wardrobe – think about the different outfits that you can put together using the clothes that you already have before buying a new piece.
Natonya: What changes would you like to see in the fashion industry?
Zoel Hernández: I really like the fact that some brands are creating collections that could be worn by both men and women. I feel like fashion is becoming more neutral in that sense. I also think that more brands should start creating sustainable clothes, as it is a serious problem that we should all keep in mind.
