A FESTIVE-SUMMERY FACE
Festival and concert season immediately presents the care-free attitude in flaunting lace tops, fringe skirts, ripped denim shorts, floral dresses with studded ankle booties and retro sunnies but it’s also an indicator that summer has arrived! Ladies we are familiar about fashionable outfits for Spring/Summer 2019 right? If not, catch up here. Whether you want to rock a neon blazer, pistachio boiler suit or crochet shorts while carrying your favorite top-handle bag, you must take in consideration how to coordinate your makeup with these new fashion trends!
Summer is all about letting the sun hit your skin for that natural glow. In contrast, the sunny days are lived out beside floral fields popping your colorful eye-shadows and fancy lip tones. No matter if you’re going natural or full glam, makeup is an exhilarating way to express creativity while highlighting your unique features.
Ok so I’m not a makeup artist nor do I know how to pull off those looks like the Instagram beauty gurus such as iluvSarahii, Amrezy or Jamie Genevieve. However, I’m a fashion enthusiast who is all about taking style risks and that includes making artistic moves with my makeup.
If you’re similar to me, caring for sensitive skin means less is more. While my face doesn’t necessarily want to handle the capacity of full glam, hint my cheeks are sensitive to blush and my lightweight MAC powder foundation is the ultimate friend, it doesn’t mean I can’t step out on the wild side and highlight one or two beauty features. I’ve been paying attention to runway shows, magazine spreads, my favorite high-fashion models and discovered some chic makeup looks I want to try. Here is what I consider as easy summer beauty trends for 2019.
Minimal to Zero Makeup
Summer lends us the free flowing energy with beach waves, sea salt hair and sun-kissed skin for that natural glow. If you live in super hot cities, less makeup is a plus right? It’s nice to break from heavy foundation, bronzer and concealer to allow your skin to breathe, especially in the summer heat.
Through digital and print magazines like PORTER, I’ve seen tons women flaunting their natural skin for this upcoming season. I like this look because it’s on the other end of the spectrum from full glam, which will make you stand out from the crowd.
Personally, I like doing the opposite of everyone else, so a natural makeup look is a go for me! Although this look calls for minimal makeup as possible, I’m using either powder foundation, lightweight concealer or a high quality CC cream to tone down pimples and acne scars. Fill in my brows, mascara to my lashes with neutral tone lip color and I feel fresh for a perfect summer day. Don’t forget the setting spray or rosewater for a dewy look!
BOLD & BEAUTIFUL SHADOWS
Ever since my younger sister Chanel introduced me to Juvia’s Place, an intense pigmented palette designed for darker skin tones, I’ve been wanting to try bold eye-shadow looks! I like shadows on the eyes because it’s a silent expressive of your mood. If you’re feeling flirty, brushing pink across the lids is flattering. How about those grungy vibes? Black and brown shadows for a smokey eye presents itself as the dark rockstar aesthetic.
What about summer? I think using bright colors such as a peacock blue, sunshine yellow, tangerine or even lime green is an excellent way to blend in with palm trees and coconut beaches. To take this look up a notch, pair two different colors that compliment each other for a mismatched but cohesive look. Not sure which two? Use the color wheel as an example.
A Soft Cat Eye
Ok who can master a really sharp-straight cat eye? Now I need you to come by house and show me because it’s a tough job to create every single time. I guess like anything in life, practice makes perfect even down to your makeup. While the cat eye remains popular from the days of Cleopatra to now, people are continuing to define the wing liner in new ways.
The eye-shadow cat eye is a soft wing liner perfect for daytime makeup. I like this look because it appears easy to manipulate and you can incorporate any color as your base. Bring on the bright summer shades!
Since I’m not a makeup guru, I want to find structured looks that make me stand out but say, “I know what I’m doing”. In my opinion, the soft eye-shadow wing is beginner friendly and hard to mess up.

BRONZED GLOWY SKIN
Sultry Golden-Glittery Tones
Who is here for that iconic glow, you know that J.Lo bronzy tone from My Love Don’t Cost A Thing music video? Or even like Rihanna’s glossy and shimmer glow? Peep her Instagram! I think that golden princess look is so sultry and perfect for summer. You instantly look like you’ve been kissed by the sun. Sweating becomes a non factor because it only emphasizes the glow, talk about a forgiving summer break!
The bronzy look to me calls for natural makeup and head to toe shimmer. Maybe you don’t want to take highlight your whole body but feel free to add some shine to your shoulders and decolletage for the ultimate sexy glow.
BOLD LIP & FLUFFY BROWS
Less But Extravagant
Taking on the natural brow instead of the bold perfected one is a cool way to let your eyebrow hair grow out and just fill-in the sparse areas with a powder or pencil. I used to cut and tweeze my brows so much that one day I almost didn’t have any brows. Every since then, I decided to let my eyebrows grow and just outline and fill in the areas.
I think a messy brow for summer adds to that nonchalant attitude the season brings. Summer is all about feeling free and letting go that perfection attitude. Summer embraces the natural looks a lot so why not a fluffy brow? A messy brow kindly complimented with a bold lip instantly takes you into glam territory. Steer away from brown or even nude and take on red, coral, pink, orange or even turquoise for the runway model look!
OUTLINED EYES & CREASE
Playful Liquid Eyeliner
I watched the elegant and inspiring Yara Shahidi’s summery eye makeup look video and she was steadfast on having fun with makeup and not using to hide your beauty. I saw her take a red pencil and create intricate shapes around her eyes. Lately, I’ve been seeing this trend of no shadow and the use of liquid eyeliner to make the eyes pop! Hello runway model!
I think this look screams spontaneous and daring, which gives me total festival vibes like Coachella. The art of outlining the creases of your eyes presses play on your playful side. This is one of those looks you see in magazines or on the runways. No matter how exaggerated, it just looks right. Seriously, you can’t mess this up because it’s all about being playful and risque. Now you can mimic this style into your own for girl’s night out, music festivals or a 5SOS concert.
Just like trying out different patterns and textures for your next OOTD, it’s nice to switch up your makeup too. Even if you try the messy brow on a natural makeup look or a bold lip with the eyebrow crease, you took a risk and that’s the most important part. Step out your comfort bubble this summer and elevate your makeup game to something new and different. You’ll be surprised to how liberated you’ll feel. #summervibes
