CAR CHRONICLES: Freebirds and A BIG Appetite

Did you know April 2 is National Burrito Day? Whether you prefer your burrito breakfast style, in the form of a chimichanga or soaked in red chile sauce, it’s the day for you to get creative and stuff those over-sized wraps with all the ingredients you enjoy. Share your appreciation for giant tortilla shells filled with numerous combinations of tender meat, ooey gooey cheese, spicy rice, fresh pico de gallo, seasoned beans, creamy avocado and any other flavor that makes your mouth water.

To join in on the fun for National Burrito Day, let me share with you my delightful experience with Freebirds World Burrito!

We pulled up to a full parking lot with an empty stomach. It was lunchtime and we were ready to chow down. Whenever Chanel and I go out to eat, it’s usually at a restaurant for our Sisters Who Lunch food tour. After our excursion at Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles, we’ve been on the hunt for flavorful meals.

I was curious with how I was going to eat this giant spinach burrito in the car but my sister and I managed quite well. We balanced crispy chips and cheesy queso on one thigh and carefully held our Freebirds burrito in one hand. Of course with any meal in the car some spillage occurred but it was quite worth the bite.

The beauty about Freebirds is becoming your own chef to decide what goes inside your burrito. So I chose to make my burrito wrapped around a spinach tortilla piled high with cilantro lime rice, black beans, dark meat chicken, steak, roasted onions and peppers and a little cheddar cheese topped with mild tomatillo sauce, cilantro and jalapenos! Did I mentioned guacamole? Whew, now that’s a stuffed burrito!

At first, I considered adding the triple cheese sauce on my burrito but sometimes too much cheese sauce makes me nauseous. Anyone else feel that way about cheese? The woman at the counter suggested I get the cheese on the side, which was an EXCELLENT idea. My adventurous sister Chanel poured queso sauce on every bite and seemed very satisfied with the flavor.

Have you heard Freebirds? Do you like burritos? What ingredients do you like to fill out your tortilla shell?

I’ve not had Mexican food in a while and as it’s my birthday on Saturday my sister and I are going to cook Fajitas – this post has definitely made me even more excited! Thanks for sharing Natonya, fab post! ❤ xx

I didn’t know there was such a thing as National Burrito Day. And that burrito looks delicious. I haven’t heard of Freebird but would love to try one of there burritos someday. I usually go to Chiptole for burritos, since they have vegetarian options, and they’re everywhere. But I’m always on the lookout for new places to try.

I think Freebirds has a vegetarian option too ❤ Maybe I'll try that one day and blog about it too 😉 Let me know if you ever try their burrito or recreate the recipe!

Hahaha Soph! Enjoy your burrito 🙂

  4. You know, I really need to experiment with burritos more. I tried one last year from El Mexicana and I really didn’t like it! But it could have been what was in it. I’m a big fan of having loads of flavours together so it should be something I’d love. So maybe it’s time to try them again!x

I know what you mean, it’s all about the power of pairing. I don’t like it when random flavors are thrown together but I don’t mind a lot flavors together. Hopefully you’ll find a place that’ll let you put together your own blend for your burrito 🙂
