Get that Natural Glow and Highlight No Topical Solution Necessary

MELANIN-MADE VITAMINS

I’m on a journey to maintaining clear skin and re-growing my hair from heat damage. I can wash my face and use the perfect moisturizer along with buying the best haircare products on the market to reduce damage but none will work without properly caring for my body on the inside. What should I do? I always heard drinking more water will reduce acne and condition the hair. I’ve been able to increase my water intake conveniently by drinking from my favorize 64oz stainless steel water bottle. Yes, I have seen nice results by drinking water such as my skin feeling softer.

Drinking water helps a wonder of things such as decreasing joint pain, adding moisture to hair, flushing out the gut and keeping the skin clear. But sometimes drinking an ample amount of water daily isn’t enough. I drink water all the time, occasionally 80 ounces to a gallon every other day or so and sometimes it’s still not enough to master the acne my sensitive skin faces.

THIS POST CONTAINS AFFILIATE LINKS BUT COST YOU NOTHING EXTRA.

We all know that healthy skin is not entirely about buying the most expensive serum, slathering it on your face and expecting long-term results. Yes, products like gel face cleansers, oils, moisturizers and exfoliators do work, especially in a topical aspect. However, if you’re looking for a long-term solution to healthy skin, focus needs to be on boosting the immune system.

Several ways to increase internal health include adding more fruits and veggies to your diet, eating superfoods, increasing water intake, managing stress, being kind, praying, meditating, laughing, adequate amount of sleep and squeezing in some type of exercise. But if you need a helping hand to regulating your system a bit more better, adding a daily multivitamin will do the trick.

If You Struggle with Gut Health as a Black Woman, Try These Vitamins

Do Multivitamins in General Work for Everyone?

Now some companies get the job done in producing vitamins that actually work to boost your immune system, increase energy and even stimulate hair follicles. However, not all brands on the market are created equally and made for everyone.

As a woman of color, I like to buy products tailored to my melanin. Why? Because melanin bodies process nutrients differently, such as Vitamin D. Research has shown that people with melanin tend to be Vitamin D deficient. Check out this analysis from Cue Health:

The amount of melanin, the pigment responsible for our skin color, plays a significant role in how efficiently our skin can produce Vitamin D. Melanin absorbs UVB radiation, providing a natural sunscreen effect. While this is beneficial for protecting our skin from sunburn and the risk of skin cancer, it can also reduce the amount of UVB radiation available for Vitamin D synthesis.

In other words, melanin skin can handle being out in the sun because it’s a natural repellant for blocking out the sun’s ultraviolet rays. However, melanin also reduces the process for Vitamin D synthesis, making one susceptible to Vitamin D deficiency. Yes, people can get Vitamin D from the sun but that’s not enough to jolt the Vitamin D synthesis process for people of color because the melanin blocks the sun, so we need a substitute, for example a supplement.

The Ultimate Supplement Tailored for Women of Color

Words can’t describe how excited I was to collaborate with this new wellness brand! Mela is a black-owned and woman-owned company that is dedicated to delivering high functioning products such as vitamins that work for melanin bodies.

After an extensive hunt and valuable research for the right multivitamin, the innovative Mela Vitamins founder Ashley Harmon created the dynamic capsules to provide women of color a product that addresses our specific needs. Ashley was diagnosed with PCOS and a Vitamin D deficiency that led to her journey of formulating the science-backed product filled with necessary ingredients for melanated individuals.

Mela Vitamins are loaded with an adequate amount of nutrients, probiotics, adaptogens to aid the body in functioning better with proper digestion, increased energy levels, along with skin and hair health. Included are a higher dosage of Vitamins D3 & B12 along with a five strain probiotic complex blend of: Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Bifidobacterium Longum, Bifidobacterium Breve, Bifidobacterium Lactis and Bifidobacterium Bifidum; which multivitamins on the market tend to lack for women of color.

The Forbes featured potent melanin vitamins are jam-packed with other nutrient essentials such as:

  • Vitamin A: antioxidant to help support and vision and relieve oxidative stress,
  • Vitamin C: supports muscle growth, boosts immune system, regulate collagen production, helps body process iron better
  • Vitamin D3: assists in the absorption of calcium, upkeeps bone, muscle and nerve health

Mela Vitamins So Good, You Don’t Need to Wear Foundation

Similar to Ashley, I’ve used vitamins on the market that literally did nothing for my skin, hair and body. I remember taking a mainstream hair growth gummy vitamin that basically was like eating a piece of candy everyday. I do take a multivitamin that helps and gives me the necessary nutrients but nothing special, just enough to get job the done in saying, “I took my vitamin for the day”.

However, when I say Mela Vitamins work, they work! Two capsules a day for one month made the biggest difference in my skin. My face was so smooth and clear, I didn’t need to wear foundation makeup. The high-powered capsules gave me an even skin tone, smoothed my textured skin and added a natural radiance that made me glow so much it was noticeable. My sister kept telling me, “your skin is glowing” on days where I had on no makeup.

I remember looking in the mirror thinking to myself, “what did I do different? Oh yeah, it’s those Mela Vitamins!

Not only did my skin tone looked more balanced, the acne was under control especially during my menstrual cycle, which is when I tend to have small breakouts with cystic acne on my cheeks. I did not experience any acne while taking these vitamins, even after not taking them for a month, my skin was still clear. Another note I want to make is that Mela Vitamins contain probiotics but the probiotics don’t hurt your stomach. These vitamins did not cramp my tummy like some plain probiotics I used to take.

Personal Message to Ashley Harmon and Mela Vitamins

Sidenote, I want to give a shoutout to Ashley for not only making a product that significantly works for women of color but to her personally for being supportive of me. After the hacking of my original Instagram page JustNatonya, I already did a collaboration with the company months prior. I wasn’t sure if my credibility with the brand was lost from the hacking of the old account. I wanted to rally up all the brands I worked with and let them know what happened. I didn’t want to loose my connection with Mela, so I reached out to them.

I told Ashley about my situation and before posting one new photo on my page, she immediately knew and trusted it was me and shipped me a free bottle of Mela Daily Essential Vitamins for my troubles. She even reposted the original collaboration with my new Instagram page Stylish.Natonya, which is technically the first post on my new page.

She didn’t require me to post or share about the brand with the new bottle she sent. Honestly, Ashley and Mela wanted to spread positive energy and help me bounce back from the hacking. That was literally a year ago and I’ll never forget her graciousness. So I wanted to let you all know that I support this brand not just because of their targeted wellness products but their personal mission of genuinely supporting black women and our well-being.
